Talking Points: What is Your Favorite Pregnant Comedy of 2007?

Talking Points: What is Your Favorite Pregnant Comedy of 2007?

Is it just me, or have most of the best comedies this year been about someone getting pregnant? Or, in the case of Superbad, someone trying to do the things that lead to spawning a child? It is a trend that hit Hollywood this year and has left us with three of the best films of the year, Juno, Waitress and Knocked Up. All three different in their own ways but all centered on an unplanned pregnancy.

The Dark Knight IMAX Featurette

The Dark Knight IMAX Featurette

It feels like we’ve been talking about The Dark Knight all day today. It’s been Dark Knight this and Joker that, all because of a wicked cool viral marketing campaign. Another hot topic surrounding the production of the Batman Begins follow-up is the fact that director Christopher Nolan has chosen to shoot some of the flick in IMAX.

No Country for Old Men

No Country for Old Men

It has been nearly a decade since the Coen brothers have done anything worth remembering. Most of their recent efforts have been silly little films that tried too hard to be cutesy, or artsy or both. The Man Who Wasn’t There was a serious piece, but it bogged down in an effort to be too abstrusely artistic and mystical; the rest of their recent offerings have bordered on ridiculous. But the trailers to No Country for Old Men suggested a return to greatness, to that tight editing and thrilling story telling that made a few of their earlier films some of the best ever made.

August Rush

August Rush

As much as I would like to recommend August Rush, I simply can’t. It deserves at least one Academy Award in the music department and I’ll tell you why. The music is great. In fact, I loved it. Rarely does a movie come along where the only saving grace that keeps it from being a borderline bad movie is it’s music. The music will captivate you, especially if you are someone who appreciates it like myself, and will make the film at least tolerable.

Southland Tales

Southland Tales

Southland Tales, an apocalyptic fever-dream of a film, is both, or perhaps neither, a failure and a startling success. As a political fable and a largely impenetrable allegory, let’s say it’s a spectacular failure. All at once, it’s an exhilarating and confounding examination of cinematic spectatorship, metaphysics, Christian mythology, soldier’s remorse and the current state of Americo-geopolitics. It also dabbles—why not, at this point?—in time travel theology and a rift in the fabric of the fourth dimension, but that sort of philosopho-scientifica is only to be expected from Richard Kelly, the film’s young director who, six years ago, made the impressive and unexpected Donnie Darko.

Christian Bale Will Take On The Terminator

Christian Bale Will Take On The Terminator

In a wholly unexpected and completely awesome turn of events, McG’s upcoming Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins has dropped a bomb of atomic proportions on us – Christian Bale cast as John Connor. The news comes from AICN and one of their trusted sources who is said to shoot 100% from the free-throw line.

Dark Knight: The Joker’s Game Continues on Black Friday *UPDATED*

Dark Knight: The Joker’s Game Continues on Black Friday *UPDATED*

Since right before Comic Con this August, the folks in the Warner Brothers marketing department have been weaving an intricate web — a web that has delivered one of the finest viral marketing campaigns in recent history. At the heart of this campaign is the clown prince of crime himself, The Joker. It is appropriate, seeing as Heath Ledger came under some initial scrutiny for being chosen as The Joker. Fans didn’t believe that he was the right choice for The Dark Knight, but thanks to a wicked cool marketing campaign, at least we’ve got something else to talk about.

Boiling Point! Seat Saver’s Etiquette

Boiling Point! Seat Saver’s Etiquette

With the Holiday movie season upon us, large crowds of families and friends will undoubtedly be flocking to the multiplex in large numbers and equally massive groups. Now, I’m not proud of it, but I’ve been part of the 12 person movie viewing club in which 12 people show up in 4 different cars 20 minutes before the movie. Oh and I should mention that, of course, no one arrives on time. So the two or three people who make it on time are supposed “save some seats” much to the bane of themselves and those other fine folks wishing to catch a film.

Sexy Starlets: Hitman’s Olga Kurylenko

The movie may be getting rocked by critics, but there are 3-4 minutes of a nude Olga Kurylenko somewhere in the middle to take the sting off the train-wreck of a story.

Officially Cool: William Shatner is a Shaman

I do not play “World of Warcraft”, the extremely popular — and in many ways cultish — massively multi-player online role playing game. But while you won’t see me leading my character through the Hellfire Peninsula or Thunder Bluff, you may just run across a celebrity or two.
